Lagan Valley Midwifery Unit Celebration Event

08/02/2016

On 26 February 2016, the staff in the Midwifery Led Unit (MLU) at Lagan Valley Hospital will be holding a celebration event marking 5 years of serving the families of the Lisburn Area and beyond. The celebrations will take place from 11.00am to 1.00pm in the Lagan Valley MLU.

The MLU is designed for women who are fit and healthy in their first pregnancy or who have had no problems with previous pregnancies, and are assessed as low risk. One of the benefits of the midwifery led service is that women are cared for by midwives who will have looked after them during their ante-natal period. Woman will be cared for in a fully equipped room where they will stay throughout labour, birth and until they go home. The environment and design is relaxed and pleasant to promote and assist normal childbirth. Facilities include bed settees which comfortably allow the woman’s birth partner to stay and give extra support to the new mother around the time of the birth of the baby.

On the day itself the midwives will be showcasing the services they offer in the unit including: Active Birth workshops, Hypnobirthing, Reflexology and Breastfeeding workshops. The health improvement and smoking cessation midwives will attend to explain their role within the team. Other health professionals such as physiotherapists and members of St Johns Ambulance who teach neo-natal resuscitation will also be on hand to give advice.

If you wish to attend the event, please RSVP to LaganValley.Midwives@setrust.hscni.net by 22 February 2016.
