Men's Health Week 2016

Men’s Health Week (MHW) always begins on the Monday before Father’s Day and ends on Father’s Day itself. This year it will run from Monday 13th June until Sunday 19th June 2016. The theme for this year is ‘Men United – for Health and Wellbeing’.

The aim of Men’s Health Week is to heighten awareness of preventable health problems for males of all ages; support men and boys to engage in healthier lifestyle choices and activities and encourages the early detection and treatment of health difficulties in males.

Events taking place to mark Men’s Health Week are as follows:

Free Men’s Health Checks in partnership with Action Cancer

( blood pressure, cholesterol, BMI, UV skin damage, blood glucose levels) these will take place at each venue.

Checks will take place between 11am and 7pm at each venue

o 2 June 2016 – Clough Old School House
o 16 June 2016 – Ballynahinch Community Centre
o 21 June 2016 – Downpatrick Ballymote Centre
o 23 June 2016 – Newcastle Centre
o 28 June 2016 – Ards Leisure Centre

Euro 2016 Penalty Shoot-Out Competition - Tuesday 14th June 2016

This competition will take place in the Downpatrick Sports Centre, 1 Brannish Road, Downpatrick BT30 6LL between 6.30pm – 9.30pm.

“ Do you have the nerve to take penalties? If so, enter a team of three men to compete and possibly win our competition”

Refreshments and health information will be provided and live coverage of the Euro 2016 match’s will be shown during the competition.

Walking Football Tournament – Tuesday 28 June 2016

This tournament will take place in the Sports Hall at Ards Leisure Centre, 64 William Street, Newtownards, BT23 4EJ between 1.30pm – 3.30pm.

Everyone is welcome to participate in this event regardless of gender or disability.

This is a fun, free 5 a side Walking Football Event, hospitality and medals for taking part will be provided.
