World Prematurity Day 2016

The South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust will be supporting World Prematurity Day today,17 November 2016. World Prematurity Day is a global movement to raise awareness of premature birth and the impact it can have on families. The focus of the campaign this year is the need for high quality, family centred care for all premature babies.

Staff from the Ulster Hospital Neonatal Unit along with Tiny Life (Northern Ireland's premature and vulnerable baby charity) will have an information stand outside the Oasis restaurant in the Ulster Hospital today to provide information on care and support for families. We would encourage everyone to come along to chat to the team, meet some parents who have used the service and learn more about premature birth and the support available.

The Neonatal Team plan to launch a new quality improvement programme entitled “Parents in Partnership”, where they will look at how they can improve the experience for families of premature and sick babies.

Alison Bartlett, Neonatal Ward Manager says, “Parents often talk about the “roller coaster journey of emotions” that they experience in the Neonatal Unit and thank you cards often talk about the theme of care and support through their journey. We hope to make this journey as smooth as possible and support our parents on their transition from hospital to home.”
