Trust launches Smoking Cessation video for national No Smoking Day 2018

This No Smoking Day, 14 March 2018, marks the second anniversary of the South Eastern HSC Trust sites becoming Smokefree.

This year’s theme is ‘Proud to be a quitter’ and in celebration of this we have created a video featuring the successes of staff and other quitters, starring non-smoker Mr. Eiad Qudairat, Clinical Director/Consultant Oral & Maxillo-Facial Surgery as “the driver”. We hope this fun video, will encourage others to quit smoking and help people recognise the importance of becoming Smokefree.

Great progress has been made in recent years in reducing the prevalence of smoking in N.Ireland and the South Eastern Trust Stop Smoking Team are delighted that so many staff and clients have quit smoking this year with our help.

Quitting smoking can be challenging, but there are many ways to make the process easier. Using the correct products to reduce cravings and having regular carbon monoxide level checks can increase motivation. Although smokers may not notice health benefits immediately, the body very quickly tries to begin to recover. Within 3-9 months breathing problems can improve as lung function increases and within a year the risk of a heart attack may reduce to half that of a smoker. Pregnant women who quit are less likely to have low birth -weight babies and their children are less likely to be smokers themselves!
