What is the 'CAL Project'? The CAL (Care About Learning) Project has been set up within the SEELB area to address educational issues for Looked After Children. Looked After Children (LAC) is a term used by Social Services to refer specifically to children who:
Children who are subject to a care order may live in a Children's Home, with Foster Carer/s, with relatives or at home with one or both parents. Children who are voluntarily accommodated are placed in the care of Social Services, without legal order, and may live in a Children's Home or with Foster Carer/s. If a looked after child is at school within the SEELB area, s/he will have the right (after January 2004) to have a Looked After Child's Personal Education Plan (LACPEP) completed on his/her behalf so that a careful record of educational achievements and needs may be kept. The CAL Project Tutor will work to address specific educational issues with children in the care of, and resident within, the Down & Lisburn Trust area (even if education takes place in another Education & Library Board area).
