Coronary Care and High Dependency Unit

Lagan Valley Hospital

The Coronary Care Unit is an 8-bedded unit consisting of 6 coronary care and 2 high dependency beds and is located on the 3rd floor of the main hospital block.

Patients are admitted to the Coronary Care unit following a coronary thrombosis or cardiac event. Patients recovering from major surgery are admitted to the high dependency beds for postoperative care, with their treatment being overseen by the anaesthetic team.

Highly skilled specialist medical and nursing staff care for the patients with the help of a modern in-patient monitoring system. A multidisciplinary team of other health professionals within the hospital supports them.

Cardiac outpatient investigations such as electrocardiographs, treadmill stress testing, echocardiographs, cardiac cardioversions and day monitoring are also carried out in both the ECG department and the Coronary Care Unit. A chest pain clinic takes place each Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning.
