Philosophy of care “ To provide a quality service, continuity of care and informed choice while recognising the wishes of the woman and supporting full family involvement. Our practice is underpinned by research based knowledge, supported by professional and statutory requirements.” Lagan Valley Maternity Unit delivers approximately 1100 women per year and offers a 24 hour obstetric service which is provided by a dedicated team of Obstetricians, Anaesthetists, Midwives and other supporting professionals. It provides integrated Team Midwifery for all women delivering in the Unit irrespective of risk. The Unit has recently been refurbished to provide high quality accommodation and care. Patients are accommodated in single or two bedded rooms, many of which have ensuite facilities. Entry to the Maternity Unit is key-padded and monitored by CCTV ensuring the highest standards of security. We offer the following options of care: -

Supervisors of midwives are experienced practising midwives who have undertaken additional education and training to support guide and supervise midwives. Every midwife must have a named supervisor of midwives. What is their role? Supervisors are independent of the employer; their role is to maintain safe practice, to ensure protection of you, your baby and family. They meet regularly with midwives to ensure a high standard of care is provided. How can a supervisor of midwives help you?
