5th November 2007 Halfway point reached on New Downe Hospital Construction To mark the halfway point of construction on the new Downe Hospital, Trust Chief Executive John Compton hosted a site visit for local elected representatives, including Down District Council, the Northern Ireland Assembly and the sitting MP, Eddie McGrady.
The politicians were able to see for themselves the considerable progress made by contractors McLaughlin & Harvey and the location of the new hospital departments. “This is an important milestone for the project,” Mr Compton said. “It’s already clear that the scale and nature of the new building is impressive, and tremendous progress is being made. The 120-week construction programme is on target to deliver the new hospital within time and budget.” The hospital is on schedule for practical completion in December 2008, following a period of commissioning it will be ready to accept patients for summer 2009.
