Children's Disability Service

This is a children’s service targeted at complex and long term disability needs in relation to children who have a diagnosed:

Learning Disability

or

Significant and Enduring Physical Disability

Where children are receiving services through other teams e.g. Gateway, Family Intervention Team, complex health, sensory or autism services, the teams may also provide specialist support to those teams in relation to disability.

The Children’s Disability Service provides:

  • A social work service, designed to meet statutory requirements in relation to child protection 
  • A learning disability nursing service
  • A family support service to children and their carer/s who are in the above category.

Fieldwork Teams are based in:

  • Ards (Scrabo Children’s Centre)
  • Lisburn (Warren Children’s Centre)
  • Downpatrick (Ward 25)

Residential respite is provided in:

  • Lindsay House (Dunmurry)
  • Beechfield (Conlig)
  • Forest Lodge (Belfast)

Long stay residential placements are provided in Glenmore Cottage (Hilden) and Somerton Road Children’s Home (Belfast).


Referral

Initial referral to the service must be made through the Gateway Service.
