Cancer Clinical Trials

Clinical trials are conducted by medical staff in the South Eastern Trust as part of high quality patient care to find better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. Cancer clinical trials are co-ordinated by clinicians with the support of the Cancer Clinical Research Nurse, who works as part of the Northern Ireland Cancer Trials Network (NICTN,) which links directly to the Northern Ireland Cancer Trials Centre (NICTC), based at the Cancer Centre, Belfast City Hospital.

The NICTN and the NICTC work actively in partnership with Queen’s University Belfast, the Research and Development Division of the Public Health Agency, each of the Health and Social Care Trusts and Cancer Research UK. Trials take place in the Ulster Hospital, and patients from all areas of the Trust can become involved, including those who access the health service from each of the Trust facilities at the Downe, Bangor and Lagan Valley Hospitals.
