Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP)

The Trust provides services for adults over the age of 65 years with mental health problems and adults of all ages with Dementia. Our aim is to continue to provide and develop high quality, accessible, safe and effective person-centred care to the population, which the Trust serves taking account of regional and national best practice.

What do we do?

We provide Consultant-led multidisciplinary Outpatient Clinics for individuals who are experiencing mental health or memory problems. Assessments will identify possible treatable causes for memory difficulties or where appropriate provide a diagnosis of Dementia. This may involve more than one visit to the clinic. Counselling and education is offered in conjunction with Alzheimer’s and Mindwise Support Workers.

We also operate a drop in clinic in Lisburn on the last Wednesday of each month for education and support to both patients and their carers/family. This is supported by Community Mental Health Nurses and the Alzheimer’s Support Worker. A carers group meets on the first Thursday of each month in Lagan Valley Hospital.

Admissions to hospital are agreed with the Consultant Psychiatrist.
