Press ReleaseMonday 4th September 2006 New hospital site handed over to McLaughlin and HarveyMonday, 4th September saw the handover of the site of the new Downe Hospital to contractors McLaughlin & Harvey. Following initial preparatory work, which will take a few days, the first phase of construction work will commence. This phase of work includes excavation of substructures and adjoining site areas and disposal of arisings on site; concrete works, formwork and reinforcement to foundation pads, strip foundations, ground beams and retaining wall; damp proofing/radon barrier and retaining wall, and re-location of an NIE cable. Director of Planning John Simpson, who leads the new Downe Hospital project, said this morning, “This is an exciting day for everyone working on the new hospital project – we will see more and more activity on the site in coming weeks and months. We are more than pleased to be handing the site over to McLaughlin & Harvey this morning so that work on the first phase of construction can start.”
