Project Update - August 05 |
DESIGN PROGRESS
Trust Board approved the Stage 1 design on 15th June. At the Trust Board meeting on 27th July the Design Team presented the plans for the external finishes of the new hospital and showed a computer generated fly-round image of the building, showing finishes and placing it in context with the Downshire. Following the presentation Trust Board agreed the finishes in principle. There will be extensive use of white render with brick on the façade facing the Downshire, accents of wood on the Mental Health Department and sandstone facing the Struell Wells Road.
Work has started on the detailed design stage 2 process. The Project Team and Design Team will meet with each department individually to produce their room data sheets, starting on 21st September with Mental Health and continuing each week until February 2006. The first training day was held on 3rd August for those departments who are scheduled in up to the end of October, and a further two sessions will be held later in the year. Typical rooms such as linen stores and toilets have already been discussed and agreed by the Design Team, Project Team, Infection Control and other interested parties such as Support Services.
SITE SIGN BOARDS
The sign for Collin’s Corner will be put up within the next two weeks. The sign on the Ardglass Road requires planning permission and this has been applied for. The indications are that it may take another four weeks before this is granted.
SITE CLEARANCE & DEMOLITION
Work to clear out the Maternity Unit has just finished and demolition is due to be complete by the end of the first week in September. The Project Team are continuing to visit adjoining wards on the Downshire site and other nearby buildings to check that they are not experiencing any problems with dust or noise. No problems have been raised.
PLANNING
The Trust still does not expect to hear anything further about the full planning application until after the summer. Health Estates have met with the Roads and Water Services to hear their early views and no problems have been identified. The Planning Department has not yet received all the required statutory feedback, but to date nothing untoward has been raised.
COMMUNICATIONS
The news-sheet about the New Downe Project will be issued at the end of August. The first issue includes pictures and details of the services to be provided in the new hospital. 15,000 copies will be printed for distribution to GP surgeries, libraries, etc throughout the area.
A series of information meetings for the public are planned to take place between September and the end of November. The Project Team will visit various locations within the hospital’s catchment area to describe the content and layout of the new hospital, to present the fly-round image and to display the model.
Staff will be invited to similar presentations in the Downe over the next month.
