Ulster Hospital Development

An extensive re-development programme has commenced at the 50 year old Ulster Hospital, which promises to provide modern state of the art facilities for patients, staff and visitors. Phase A of the re-development programme is well underway and work is ongoing to develop a conceptual design for Phase B.

In February last year, former Health Minister, Shaun Woodward, visited the Ulster Hospital to formally announce the approval of funding for the completion of Phase A schemes (Renal Unit, Maternity Unit, Critical Care, Theatres, Laboratories, CSSD, Stores and a new Terraced Car Park) as well as the initial investment to commence design of Phase B. There will be a total investment of £400 million over the next ten years. Mr Woodward said he was committed to ensuring patients were “put first” in the healthcare system and that this was a very exciting development for the population of North Down and Ards, East Belfast and Northern Ireland in general.
