Key People: Directors

More information regarding the director’s roles will follow shortly.

Director of Children’s Services & Executive Director of Social Work:

Kate Thompson

Kate is a professionally qualified social worker and has worked in various roles in Health and Social Services in Northern Ireland.

Kate is currently chairing the Dementia Group as part of the Bamford Review of Mental Health.

She was Director of Social Work and Primary Care Services for Down Lisburn Trust from 2002, combining this role with the Director of Social Work and Children’s Services post of Sperrin Lakeland Health and Social Care Trust from 16 March 2006 to 2 February 2007.

Director of Human Resources & Corporate Affairs:

Eamonn Molloy

Mr Molloy is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

He has held a variety of senior positions in the Health and Personal Social Services over the last 30 years and joins the Trust from North and West Belfast Trust, where he was Director of Human Resources and Corporate Affairs.

Director of Planning, Information & Performance Management:

John Simpson

Mr Simpson is a social worker by profession and held senior posts in Child Care and Elderly Services before moving into general health and social care management.

John was a member of Down Lisburn Trust’s senior management team from 1994, as Director of Mental Health, then Director of Acute Services and latterly as Director of Planning and Performance Management.

Director of Finance & Estates:

Paul Cummings

Mr Cummings trained as an accountant with Northern Ireland Electricity. He joined the Health Service in 1987, working in the EHSSB and was then appointed Director of Finance & Contracting to the Mater Hospital in 1990.

For the past seven years he has been Director of Finance & Information for the Ulster Community & Hospitals Trust. In 2003 Paul served as the National Chairman of HFMA, the first person outside the English NHS to receive such an honour.

Director of Hospital Services:

Seamus McGoran

Mr McGoran began his career in the health service in 1986 and worked within Social Services, Finance and Human Resources.

He took on the role of Director of Human Resources for the Ulster, North Down & Ards Hospitals Trust in 1996.

Mr McGoran moved into the position of Director of Acute Services for the Ulster Community & Hospitals Trust in April 1998.

He will have overall responsibility for services within the Bangor, Downe, Lagan Valley, Newtownards and Ulster hospitals.

Director of Primary Care, Elderly & Executive Director of Nursing:

Charlotte McArdle

Ms McArdle joins the Trust from the Royal Hospitals, where she was Acting Director of Nursing from October 2006 and Deputy Director of Nursing from August 2004.

Charlotte’s professional background is in nursing. She joined the RVH in 1998 as a ward sister and moved into senior nursing management in 1999.

Her responsibilities include professional leadership for nurses and midwives and training and development for nurses throughout the Trust.
