About the Child & Family Consultation Service

THE CHILD AND FAMILY CONSULTATION SERVICE

WHO WE ARE

The Child & Family Consultation Service provides a Community Mental Health Service to children and young people, up to the age of 18 in the North Down and Ards Area.

The Child & Family Consultation Team comprises of:

  • Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists
  • Clinical Psychologist
  • Social Work Therapists
  • Clinical Nurse Therapists
  • Team Co-ordinator
  • Behaviour Management Support Worker
  • Team Secretaries

We have training and experience in working with children, young people and their families.

WHAT WE DO

We offer a range of therapeutic services, which include:

  • Assessment
  • Individual counselling including Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
  • Family Therapy
  • Consultation to involved professionals
  • Medication (if necessary)

AIMS

We seek to provide a specialist, multi-disciplinary outpatient service, which aims to promote the emotional well-being of children and young people who present with psychological or behavioural difficulties within this area.

We aim to achieve this end by working in partnership with parents, young people and professionals and in a manner, which is sensitive to, and values the differing cultural traditions and family structures of those attending our service.

HOW CAN I ATTEND THE SERVICE

Referrals to the Service should be made by letter from a professional who may include:

  • GP
  • Social Worker
  • Health Visitor
  • Education Psychology
  • Paediatricians

In all cases there is liaison with the person who makes the referral and the GP.

CONFIDENTIALITY

Clients have the right to expect that their attendance and everything they say will not be passed on to anyone else outside the service without their prior written consent. However, the Child & Family Consultation Team have a legal responsibility to notify appropriate agencies where they believe a child may be at risk or there is a risk of serious harm to anyone.
