Service Developments The M.R.I (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scanner was officially opened by the Countess of Wessex. Some pictures of the opening are below:
This service further extended the diagnostic range the department could offer and ensured complete compliance with the “Clinical Imaging Strategy Subgroup Report” which consolidated the Ulster Hospital as a Cancer Unit. In keeping with the Cancer services offered by the Trust the Department has extended its range of one-stop clinics to include a second breast clinic. Recent service developments include the introduction of proctogram imaging examinations which allow abnormalities and weaknesses in the rectal muscle to be diagnosed. Previously patients requiring this examination had to be referred to Craigavon Area Hospital. A CR (Computerised Radiography) viewing monitor was installed in Bangor Minor Injuries Unit to facilitate transfer of the patient’s digital image. Advantages include faster image acquisition and the management of fractures which can be viewed by experienced medical staff in the A&E Department on the Ulster Hospital site. A CR (Computerised Radiography) viewing monitor has been installed in Holywood Arches Health Centre. This installation facilitates image transfer from the GP X-Ray Department on the Ulster Hospital site. Images can be viewed by GP’s and by the staff in the Orthopaedic Triage Clinic increasing efficiency and faster patient treatment. Other recent service developments include the following: -
