A Charter Mark Award was presented to the Radiology service in 1999. The department was successful with a re-application in 2001 and is proud to be the only Radiology Department in Northern Ireland to hold such an award in recognition for excellence in Public Services.

In November 2001 the Radiology Division was successful in reaching the final of the NHS Team of the Year Awards. The presentation outlined a series of quality improvement initiatives identified from extensive user consultation and implemented through several special interest teams, often at no additional cost to the department. Although not the overall winner the team was highly commended for their presentation and awarded with a Wedgwood plate to mark the occasion.

The Ulster Hospital Research Fellowship funded a joint study between Cardiology and Radiology. Clinical leads for the study are Dr David Higginson, Consultant Cardiologist, Dr Patrick Donnelly, Research Fellow and Dr Paul Hanley, Consultant Radiologist. The study researches multi-slice CT coronary angiography in comparison to conventional angiography and is the first of its kind to take place in Ireland.
