Theatres Theatres are located in both the Ulster and Ards hospitals providing an elective surgical facility for both adult and paediatric patients on an inpatient and day case basis. An Emergency theatre is located at the Ulster Hospital, which provides a 24-hour service. Theatres provide a service to the following specialties:
The Theatre Department consists of: Ulster Hospital Main adult theatres: 6 (one of which is an emergency theatre) Paediatric theatres: 2 Endoscopy suite: 1 Maternity theatres: 2 Recovery ward The recovery ward, which is located within the theatre department, comprises 10 bed spaces for the safe recovery of patients following surgery and before returning to the ward. There is also a Paediatric recovery Ward Located beside the paediatric theatre. Ards Community Hospital Day Procedure Unit: 2 Endoscopy suite: 1 There is a recovery facility within the Theatres so patients can recover before returning to the ward. For more information please click here to view our leaflet: ‘Your Trip to Theatre’ Acute Pain Service The acute pain service is consultant led and supported by 2 nurses with specialist training and skills in the management of acute pain for patients following major surgery. The service aims to ensure patients have their pain appropriately managed after surgery and provides advice and training to both medical and nursing staff at ward level. Chronic Pain Service The Chronic pain service provides treatment and support for patients with chronic pain. This service can only be accessed with a referral from a General Practitioner or Hospital Consultant. The Chronic Pain team comprises of a small team of medical and nursing staff and provides both an outpatient and day case service in the Ulster Hospital. The team also includes a Clinical Psychology service. The service has recently expanded to include Nurse-led services at Ards and Bangor Hospitals. |
