The Specialist Breast Care Service, based at the Ulster Hospital is committed to providing a service, which is at the leading edge of modern clinical care. We aim to deliver a sensitive, high quality service, which focuses on individualised patient care.
Specialist Breast Care Service Charter for Patients
- Patients attending will be seen by a team specialising in all aspects of the management of breast disease.
- Patients will receive a diagnosis prior to surgery or treatment plan, as appropriate, at the clinic. Occasionally further tests may be necessary to obtain a definite diagnosis.
- Patients will be aware of their diagnosis prior to surgery or treatment. However, there may be a few exceptions.
- Patients will be given all the information, support and time to allow them to make decisions regarding all aspects of treatment. An integrated reconstruction service will be offered to appropriate patients.
- A nurse specialising in the care of patients with breast disease is available at all times for support and consultation.
- A service offering the fitting of prosthetics and advice on clothing will be provided to appropriate patients.
- A service managing lymphoedema, minimising its risks, and offering treatment where necessary, is available.
- Support will be provided and their carers from diagnosis, through surgery and following discharge. This service is available as long as the patient wishes
